Gimmel Tammuz - The Yahrzeit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe

Tomorrow is the 3rd day of the Jewish month of Tammuz - Gimmel be'Tammuz, and the Jewish world is commemorating the Yahrzeit of the seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson who passed away on this day in June 1994.

In Judaism, anniversaries (Yahrzeits) of someone's death are celebrated with a memorial service, a meal, many guests and speeches about the deceased. Thus, his soul is rising to a higher level.
Some time ago, I spoke with a Chabad – Meshichist about this date.
Meshichistim are those within the Chabad group who believe that the seventh and last Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, is the Meshiach.
As soon as I mentioned the word "Yahrzeit" to the Meshichist, he almost fainted. Chabad – Meshichistim believe that the Rebbe has no Yahrzeit and never died. Instead, 3rd Tammuz is the day when Rebbe Schneerson became invisible. He is still around but just in another higher dimension where we cannot see him. When the time has come, the Rebbe is returning into our dimension and revealing himself as Meshiach. Moreover, some Chabadnik - Meshichistim told me that when the Rebbe is going to reveal himself, his home 770 is flying over to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. I am just wondering what the Rebbe himself had to say about this.:-)
I found the reaction of the Meshichist quite amusing but I also asked myself how people can really believe such claims. How far do people go in order to believe something ? Do they just react this way because they want to believe it ? Maybe in order to escape the crucial reality where Rebbe Schneerson died in June 1994 and since, Chabad has been without leadership.

Last Night: Thousands of Jews were praying at Kever Yosef in Shechem

In April 2011, the Breslover Chassid Ben – Yosef Livnat was shot at Kever Yosef (the grave of the biblical Yosef) by Palestinian security forces. Nevertheless, not only since the death of Livnat, a visit at the Kever in the Palestinian terror town of Shechem is not without any controversy.
Despite all security issues and without being afraid of Palestinian mobs and snipers, thousands of Jews came to Shechem last night in order to pray at Yosef's grave. Protected by the Israeli army.

Christian Missionaries at the Tel Aviv "Laila Lavan" using Bob Dylan

Christian literature has always confused me and I have never gotten the point out of it. No wonder that Christianity is totally illogical !
Last Thursday night, at Tel Aviv's "Laila Lavan - White Night", Christian missionaries from the Phillipines were handing out their idol - worship pamphlets in Sderot Rothschild (Rotschild Boulevard). I don't get the content of the pamphlet, as it is a kind of stupid. The missionaries, in a way, are using some sayings of Bob Dylan and compare it to the sayings of their false Meshiach J.

A national religious blog used the expression "Tel Aviv - like". It doesn't matter in what context and I didn't even pay too much attention. Alone the expression "Tel Aviv - like" drove me mad.
Excuse me, what is "Tel Aviv - like" ?
For many religious Jews in Israel our city means Sodom and Gomorrha. People living in Tel Aviv are mainly secular, don't keep the Torah, have an empty life, as there is no Torah. People in Tel Aviv are leftists, support an Arab State, are homosexuals and eat pork.
My question is: When was the last time you have lived in Tel Aviv for more than a year in order to make such a claim ? Do you know this city at all besides passing through ?
The day before yesterday a colleague asked me at work why religious people from JERUSALEM like to come to Tel Aviv, forget about their Frumkeit (being frum) and behave like a pig ? "I don't trust religious Jews coming to Tel Aviv" - were the words of my colleague.
Many religious Jews always complain about Tel Aviv but who actually knows about the complains of the people from Tel Aviv. Since I have been living here, I have realized more than once that those Tel Aviv claims are correct.
Many religious Jews coming to Tel Aviv have only one goal: Leaving their religious pressure life at home and enjoying some time in "freedom". Lets look at many Yeshiva guys (I just saw some black Kipot today) laying at the beach. Not the religious gender separated beach but the regular beach.
Just look at those religious people (mainly guys) coming to Tel Aviv in order to go to a prostitute, pub, use drugs or whatever.
Who else but me can understand what it means to live in a haredi society where society pressure is all over the place ? The neighbours, the parents, the friends, the Rabbis, anything. A human being needs a balance and has to get out sometimes. However, running to Tel Aviv, doing whatever and then going back and giving a Drasha on Shabbat how bad the people in Tel Aviv are ...
How about looking at yourself first instead of pointing your finger at everyone else ? And this doesn't only include Haredim but especially the national religious. Getting out of your settlement and searching for some Tel Aviv fun ? This is definitely not Tel Aviv - like, as the Tel Avivim are just looking down on you.
My colleague said that he doesn't understand why religious people need to run to Tel Aviv and do whatever when they are so religious. So, why do you ?

Rabbi Dov Lior and his Family Background

Last Friday, the secular Israeli newspaper “Yediot Acharonot” published an interview with Mottke Leinwand, the secular older brother of the Chief Rabbi of Kiryat Arba (near Hebron), Rabbi Dov Lior. As we know, Rabbi Lior was arrested by the Israeli police a few days ago and later on released. One may agree to Rabbi Yitzchak Shapira's book "Torat HaMelech" or reject it. However, the majority of the religious population says that this is not a concern of a secular court but of a Beit Din. It is regarding Halacha and has nothing to do with any worldly law system.
Although Wikipedia states that Rabbi Lior's original name is “Leibland”, the newspaper “Yediot Acharonot” calls his former family name LEINWAND. Mottke, the secular brother of Rabbi Dov Lior living in northern Israel, gave an interview and basically said that his brother is right regarding Israeli politics. Rabbi Lior may sometimes use some harsh words and statements but there is nothing worng with his ideas.

Dov grew up with three brothers. His father was a Polish Belzer Chassid and the sons were educated in a chassidic Cheder. Then the Germans occupied Poland and the Leinwand family was suffering from the Nazi Holocaust. After the war, Dov Lior moved to Israel and changed his family name. Due to what his brother Mottke witnessed during the war, he was unable to continue believing that there is a G - d.
Despite their different lifestyles, the two brothers are still very close to each other and respect their opinions on Judaism.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe & The Christian "Jew"
It is unbelievable that the Jew who converted to Christianity handed the Lubavitcher Rebbe Menachem Mendel Schneerson a Christian missionary book. The Rebbe said to him that, hopefully, the REAL Meshiach will come soon ! Then the Rebbe took the missionary book and stated that it is better when he takes it, as the Christian passing it on to another Jew.
The Rebbe did the right thing and threw the missionary book into the garbage.

Rosh Chodesh TAMMUZ

Tonight and tomorrow (Sunday), we are celebrating the beginning of the new month of Tammuz (Rosh Chodesh Tammuz). As I have mentioned many times before, the beginning of a new Jewish month also stands for a new beginning in life. Or at least could stand for it when people are ready to change.
The month of Tammuz doesn't at all include the most positive events in Jewish history but Chassidut Chabad has changed this fact a bit. According to Chabad, in Tammuz, Meshiach is preparing his arrival. Furthermore, in Tammuz, Chabad is celebrating the release from jail of the sixth Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn. The Rebbe was released from Russian jail in Tammuz 1927. Rebbe Yosef Yitzchak was the father - in - law of the seventh and last Lubavitcher Rebben, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who passed away in June 1994 (on 3rd (Gimmel) Tammuz) in New York.
- The first Tammuz tragedy in the history of the Jewish people happened on 17 Tammuz. The day when Moshe came down from Mount Sinai, saw the Israelites dancing around the famous Golden Calf (Egel) and thus smashed the tablets (Luchot) due to anger.
- Many years later, on 17 Tammuz the Babylonian destroyed the outer wall of the First Temple. A few weeks later, on 9 Av, the Temple was totally destroyed.
The kabbalistic book Sefer Yetzirah (Book of Creation) explains that every Jewish month not only has its name but also its letter, its tribe, its humans sense, its horoscope and its body part. The letter of the month of Tammuz is the Chet ח , the horoscope is cancer, the body part is the right hand, the tribe is Reuven and the human sense is seeing (eyes).
Already Adam and Eve (Chava and Adam) in Paradise used their eyes for negative purposes. They looked at the apple and ate it; meaning their eyes desired the fruit. As a result the month of Tammuz is asking us to fix the human sense of seeing and turn it into something positive.

Every Sunday night, Rabbi Mordechai Machlis is giving a class at the "Israel Center" (OU) in Jerusalem. And almost every time, Yair Davidy is participating in the class. Davidy is a guy whose English I can hardly understand, as he speaks with a very heavy South African or Australian accent. A rather sloppy looking guy who behaves in an arrogant manner. Rabbi Machlis always praises him as someone who is famous and has written various books on the lost Jewish tribes.
Once I had a look into one of these "famous" books at the Machlis home and, as I expected, Davidy's book didn't have any kind of recommendation, as Jewish religious books usually have. In other words, Davidy (who I have never ever seen at the famous Jewish National Library in Jerusalem) is making up his own thoughts on the tribes. Without any research and discussions with real professional Rabbis or Scientists.
Once Rabbi Machlis was again praising him during his class when a young Christian woman from South America claimed that she has "Jewish" roots. The "root issue" has become a popular method of missionaries sneaking into Israel and trying to claim their Jewishness (which has never existed). They just show up and claim to be from tribe so - and - so. Just like the "Bnei Menashe" from India, some self - appointed Jews from Peru or Kenyia.
I knew that the young woman was lying and as soon as Yair Davidy announced his false weirdo theory that she must be Jewish then, I almost jumped up the roof. You are a Christian and mention "your chosen tribe" to Davidy, the guy will make you Jewish right away. Probably because of all the Christian donations he may get out of this.
Now, plenty of Christians have been claiming to belong to a tribe. They are trying to make Aliyah in order to prostelyze Jews afterwards. Their latest plan is the establishment of a Christian settlement in the Shomron (Samaria). Unfortunately, many Jewish settlers are ready to help the Christians, as lots of money is involved. Lately, the national religious settler movement has become addicted to Christian missionary money.

Tel Aviv was celebrating its "Laila Lavan - White Night"
Last Thursday night, Tel Aviv was celebrating its cultural "Laila Lavan - White Night". With a friend coming from Jerusalem, I only walked to see the performances in Sderot Rothschild (Rothschild Boulevard) and was disappointed. There was much more going on in the previous years. Nevertheless, the city was totally packed with people walking from event to event.
The two ladies dancing may be not too modest but it was an interesting performance.
Various people living in posh Rothschild Boulevard started celebrating their own parties.

What the police may have missed were some Christian missionaries handing out pamphlets in Rothschild Boulevard. The missionaries came from the Philippines and it was the only negative scene my friend and I were witnissing. Actually it was my friend who was approached by a Philippina handing her the pamphlet. Then my friend showed it to me, as the doesn't know much Hebrew and the pamphlet was kept in Hebrew only. It shows a picture of Bob Dylan and first I thought that it is some kind of advertising. However, in the text below it talks about "Yeshua" (may his name be erased). I am going to make a photo of the pamphlet and will put it into the blog tomorrow !
The reaction was that the majority of people didn't even look at it, as they came to enjoy themselves at the festival. Okay, it was a secular celebration but YAD LE'ACHIM should have come and kept an eye on it !!!
