At least, the German press has, so far, ignored the latest attacks on Israel coming from Palestinian terror organizations in Gaza. The famous problem is that the international press closes its eyes when it comes to Hamas or Hizbollah attacking Israel but, as soon as Israel strikes back, the entire world starts screaming when there are Palestinians being attacked. 

More than 60 rockets have hit Israeli territory within the past few days and Israelis living in the southern region near the border to Gaza keep on running to the bomb shelters. Yesterday, a "Grad Rocket" landed north of Ashdod.

The only solution I see is entering Gaza and finish off Hamas. Unless Israel doesn't take this tough step, nothing is ever going to change. Hamas and its terror friend "Jihad Ha'Islami" may feel much stronger and secure now, as Obama won the elections; and a Barak Hussein Obama who has become a good friend of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood won't go against Hamas but tell Netanyahu to keep quiet. Without Obama's permission, the Israeli army may not enter Gaza and this is why Hamas is just laughing at us and continues shooting rockets.

You have probably already read about it in the news: Yehudah Meshi Zahav's son Ariel became a Golani soldier. Golani is a combat unit and part of the "Zionist" Israeli army. 

The news didn't really surprise me but last night, when I was at friends in Mea Shearim for dinner, no one wanted to believe me that Meshi Zahav also went to the Tekes (official oath of enlistment) of his son, taking place at the Kotel (Western Wall) in Jerusalem. My Mea Shearim friends said that they do believe that Ariel Zahav joined the army but not that Meshi went to the swearing at the Kotel. However, Israeli papers claim so and Meshi Zahav himself gave an interview:

Ariel Zahav said that he always wanted to join the army and when he finally did so, he went to the Nachal Ha'Charedi first but was disappointed. Years ago, when the Nachal unit was founded, it consisted of Haredim only but, in the course of the time, more and more national religious Jew got accepted destroying the haredi character. Today the so - called Nachal Ha'Charedi is not a haredi unit anymore and when Ariel Zahav saw the soldiers modern behaviour, he preferred switching to Golani.

Haredim and Arabs are joining the Israeli Army

Netanyahu decided that "Haredim & Israeli Arabs" have to join the army. The plan is to turn every single Israeli into a Zionist favouring a democratic system. 

For the past few weeks, the Israeli media just bombarded us with news against haredi society. Well, some journalists showed a bit of mercy for the haredi society and even wrote the daily reality no one else seems to take into consideration:

What is the army going to do with a few thousand more recruits ? At the moment, the Israeli army doesn't even have the capacity drafting all 18 - year old citizens who are willing to join. Plenty of them are being delayed because there is just not enough space. Furthermore, the government is not willing to provide special units for the haredi population. The present NACHAL HA'HAREDI has become a national religious unit and those two different groups don't go together. Not only because Haredim usually have a higher kashrut standard. 

The Haredim are already planning a demonstration of millions against the upcoming law. However, lets leave the Haredim but look at a more severe change in law. 

Israeli Arabs are due to be drafted into the army service too. The question is: Whom are they going to fight ? In case an Arab pilot is ordered to bomb Iran, he may prefer to rather dump his bomb on Tel Aviv.

This is just great for Arabs: They receive army weapons and military training. Let alone getting to know all military secrets. This is just perfect: The enemy will know about all the secrets and is thus able to lead a counterstrike. This way, the present State of Israel is going to commit suicide.

The "Haredim & the Army Subject" again

Making a long story very short: 

Again, the Israeli government wants to discuss drafting ALL Haredim into the army service. As expected, the EDAH HA’CHAREDIT has already run a protest and many more will follow. 

It is widely known that most Haredim don’t agree with the present State of Israel. I am not talking about the anti – Zionism of Satmar, the Neturei Karta, Toldot Aharon, the EDAH or as a whole or Chabad. Also Belz, Gur and others are not too happy with the present state but do, in a way, try influencing the government regarding religion. 

The latest official suggestion is that all Haredim may be forced to join the Israeli army. If they are not willing to join, they could be facing economic sanctions. Whatever that means. 

I am not favouring any force but do think that many young Haredim need a task in life. Too many of them are not going to Yeshiva on a daily basis but simply hang around. Either in the streets, Internet Cafes, snack bars with TV or in parks. And too many of them get negative ideas and start going against the law. Especially for those guys, the army duty wouldn’t be so bad but could provide them with a certain level of responsibility in life. If they don’t go to the Yeshiva, at least, do something in life.

SULTAN YAAKOV file still TOP SECRET

Even thirty years after an Israeli tank unit was ambushed by Syrian troops, details of the tragic battle at  Sultan Yaakov  are still hard, if not impossible, to access. The battle took place in Lebanon during the first Lebanon War. The sad result: 20 killed Israeli soldiers, 30 soldieres were injured and several were kidnapped by the Syrians. One of them Zecharia Baumel whose mother is now searching for unanswered questions. 

Plenty of material on the battle of Sultan Yaakov can be found but the strange thing is: You will never really find all questions answered nor all details given. I am not going to deep into the matter now but in a later article. Nevertheless, I would like to point out that the surviving soldiers of the battle still keep quiet until today. None of them is willing to talk about what really happened during the battle. It seems as if those soldiers don't want to give room for accusations and rather retain their honour. But not only the survivors keep quiet. Also the Israeli government and army don't provide the public with too many information. Usually the government acts very fast by launching investigation committees but not in the case of Sultan Yaakov. Everyone just kept silent and thus it doesn't surprise very much that the file is still treated as "top secret". Or in other words, we don't know what really happened at Sultan Yaakov. 

Two of the kidnapped soldiers were exchanged later on but the three soldiers Zecharia Baumel, Zvi Feldman and Yehudah Katz never returned. Their parents accuse the Syrians of keeping them in jail. Who knows whether they are alive or dead. 

Israel's problem is that army generals retire and then start a political career. From a general into the Knesset. First the general will keep quiet about his actions and failures and, as a politician (lets say as Minister of Defense), he even has better opportunities to get away with former failures. For centuries, the same politicians have been elected into the Knesset and for centuries, the same Israeli journalists have been reporting about politics. The two sides know each other well and, unfortunately, only a few journalists dare to ask questions.  

Let me give you a present example: 

We all know that Gilad Shalit wasn't a hero. He neither suffered in the Hamas jail nor did he prove himself as a great fighter. Instead he was watching "National Geographic" and eating Hummus. There are claims that while Shalit's comrades were fighting Palestinian intruders, Shalit himself was hiding inside a tank. The question is: What did really happen when two of Shalit's comrades were killed and Shalit himself was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists ?  

Gilad Shalit's father Noam has been successfully blocking any meeting between the parents of the two dead soldiers and his son. Apparently there are good reasons for not letting those parents talk to Gilad. It goes without saying that Gilad Shalit was locked up for several years by Hamas but, on the other hand, the family of the two dead soldiers who died in battle have a right knowing what really happened during the last moments of their son's lives. So far, the Shalit family doesn't seem to care and Israeli journalists don't even raise the question.

Haredim, secular Israelis and the Army

I read in a secular Israeli paper that more than 70% of the country's population want to see Haredim joining the army. If necessary, by force. A topic secular papers don't like mention a lot is that plenty of secular Israelis try to get around the army service because they simply don't want to join. 

Two weeks ago, a working colleague of mine was ordered to an army base because he hadn't participated in the annual reserve duty (Miluim) for the past two years. My colleague had kept his address as a secret and thus the army wasn't able to contact him and call him in for Miluim.

As soon as my colleague stepped into the army base, he got arrested. He was put into the military prison "Kele 4" and, surprise, surprise, he wasn't alone. Plenty of other Israelis had hidden themselves from the reserve duty and were waiting for their trial. After three days, my colleague went to court and was sent home. The army doesn't need him (although he was in a combat unit) and his punishment was changing his rank. From First Corporal to and ordinary Corporal. I am not too familiar with military ranks.:-)

In the end, the colleague won despite all his lazyness joining the reserve duty. He is free and the army is not interested in him anymore. Obviously there is no need for thousands of people joining the army. 

However, this doesn't mean that Haredim don't have to go to the army. I think they should although I am aware of all kinds of haredi society problems and Rabbi's decisions. I assume that secretly, many young Haredim would love to join in an entirely haredi unit but are too afraid due to society reactions. For instance, it will be hard finding a good Shidduch afterwards or the siblings won't get accepted into popular Yeshivot.

Personally I find it unfair that only one part of society is protecting our country. G - d asks us to do something and He will help but if we don't do, what are we expecting G - d to do ? I also find it unfair when young soldiers give their lives for their country and certain young Yeshiva guys don't even go to their classes / Chavrutas but hang around donwtown Jerusalem simply doing nothing.

Lets assume that Israel is going to attack Iran's nuclear facilities. Then what ? Hasn't the Iran threatened our country with a severe counterattack ? 

We always hear about attacking Iran and destroying its nuclear plants but who is able to guarantee that such an attack is really going to destroy Iran's nuclear weapon archive. If I was Achmadinejad, I would move all important facilities, laboratories etc. to a secret place. If necessary, underground. 

This is why I am asking the question if any politician or army general is able to guarantee a success. Couldn't it be that Israel or / and the United States are attacking Iran and fail in destroying the plants ? What if Iran is launching a counter strike against Tel Aviv and further Israeli cities ? 

Today, Israel's Home Front Command (Pikud HaOref) exercised another drill and I heard the sirens this morning. Despite all kinds of drills, lets be honest: Who is really prepared for any wider attack on our country ? No matter if with conventional or unconventional rockets; let alone an atomic bomb. Almost every household in Israel has a private bomb shelter but the majority of those shelters is in terrible condition. Dirty, full of junk and mainly used as storage rooms. 

A city like Tel Aviv is totally overcrowded and buildings stand very close to each other. Israel is a tiny country and there isn't much space for building houses. Every little piece of space is used and many times, you can watch your neighbours through the window preparing food in the kitchen.

In general, the Israeli press as well as politician have been trying to stay away from the question "What is going to happen in case Iran is going to attack us ?" We simply don't have an answer nor can anyone say what kind of weapons Achmadinejad's country has or how an Iranian response is going to take place. On the one hand, politicians as well as the press love to panic sometimes. On the other hand, many Israelis feel completely save because our country has a strong army. 

To tell you the truth, I am not that sure and don't feel save. If Iran doesn't start an immediate counterattack, it may command the Hizbollah in Lebanon and the Hamas of doing so. We don't have to wait for an Iranian attack but should concentrate on our direct neighbours.

I am almost ashamed to announce that people in Tel Aviv are still celebrating Purim. Noisy parties everywhere and I haven't had a quiete minute this afternoon, as a huge party is going on outside. People in the south have to run into bomb shelters whereas in Tel Aviv people keep on partying.

Just recently, I wrote the below article on the Israeli "Tal Law" and yesterday, the Supreme Court took an interesting step: The "Tal Law" is cancelled, as it doesn't show any equality ! It cannot be that a certain society group is exempt from the army service while others have to serve. 

Now the Israeli government has got six months offering another law proposal. This shouldn't be that easy, as the haredi parties are part of the coalition. On the other hand, it is not impossible, as also haredi ministers like to keep their positions.

Again, the Israeli government has to decide about the extention of the controversial “Chok Tal – Tal Law”: Young male Haredim who are enrolled in Yeshivot are, according to the "Tal Law", exempt from the army service. 

Every time, the law is being discussed anew, all kinds of new / old criticism is coming up. At the moment, the time making a decision is not the best: For the past weeks, Israeli left - wing organizations as well as the secular press have been spreading the worst propaganda against haredi society as a whole. Without pointing out various differences between various haredi groups and ideologies. 

I can understand those Israelis who are joining the army service without any complaint. They see it as their duty to protect and fight for our country. I can also understand that regular Israeli soldiers are upset about an entire (haredi) society not joining the armed forces. On the other hand, I do understand many Haredim who do not join the Israeli army. One of the main reasons why they don't are society reasons. Young Haredim are reluctant to go to the army, as they fear being rejected from their own society. Especially regarding Shidduchim or that family members won't be accepted at great Yeshivot. 

More than a decade ago, the army unit “Nahal HaCharedi” was founded. The first soldiers joining this haredi unit were Haredim. However, a little later, the "Nahal" made the mistake of accepting more and more national religious soldiers. The difference is that national religious soldiers do agree to certain "light" standards such as eating kosher food with a "Chief Rabbinate - Rabbanut" Hechsher. Most Haredim do not. Haredim don't really want to serve in this unit anymore, as they don't consider the "Nahal" as entirely haredi but as something "modern Orthodox". Nevertheless, there is quite a high amount of Haredim who would like to serve in the army if the religious standards were higher. The more Rabbis were favouring the army service, the more Haredim would actually join. 

Haredim as well as national religious men claim that the army itself doesn't want too many frum soldiers. Despite all criticism, does the army really need so many haredi soldiers ? The generals say YES but reality appears to be different. The Ministry of Defense has been spreading quite shocking reports: In another 10 years or so, the Israeli army is going to face a lack of soldiers. How then will we be able to defend our country ? As expected, the press found the guilty side: The Haredim. On the other hand, the media also pointed out that the amount of secular Israelis looking for exemption from the army, has been constantly growing. The number 1 refusals are coming from secular Israelis living in Tel Aviv. 

I don't have any solution to offer. On the one hand, I do understand the haredi public and its refusal of going to the army. On the other hand, I have lots of sympathy for Israeli soldiers complaining about the "Tal Law". Why do they have to serve while others sit in Yeshivot or simply do nothing besides enrolling ? As a matter of fact, there is a high amount of young Haredim who are enrolled in Yeshivot but hardly participate in any studies. 

I know a national religious Rabbi whose son has become haredi. The son was anxious becoming a soldier but the father didn't let him go because he was too afraid that his son may die on the battlefield. The result was that the son didn't join the army but the service could have changed his life into more positive directions. Bored and not knowing what to do in life, the son went a little astray due to money matters. 

By the way, a couple of years ago (when I was still younger), I asked the army whether I can still join. Due to my advanced age, I couldn't but was offered to volunteer at a checkpoint. The problem was that I need to earn a living and thus didn't sign up.

The Chabadnik (I don't know if he still is one), David Zoldan, wrote a book about his army service and the first "Nachal HaHaredi" where he was serving. I haven't finished reading the whole book but sometimes the content is too military. Which general said what and how the Nachal was founded. 

However, the book is interesting to read and also describes the reaction of David Zoldan's Rabbi and Mashpiah who didn't agree with the step the former Yeshiva student took.

Faked Picture makes its round on Facebook

The world loves going against Israel. Facebook User “Wesley Muhammad” published a photo on his Facebook page and thousands of people just jumped on it and spread the picture all over the social media site. However, the picture is a fake and neither shows Israel nor an Israeli soldier. It was taken in Bahrain when Arabs were demonstrating against Israel. The "soldier" as well as the girl on the photo are simply acting.

Today before dawn, the Israeli army was storming an illegal outpost near Kiryat Arba / Hebron. The soldiers broke the doors and pulled the settlers, including their children, out of their homes. A disgrace for our country !

Gilad Shalit – This is all what we hear. In particular from the media and Gilad Shalit's parents Avivah and Noam. For five years, Noam Shalit has made it very clear to us that we, as Israelis, have the duty to care about Gilad. At any cost.

And this “At any cost” has been causing plenty of criticism. First of all from the bereaved families of terror victims and, secondly, from the bereaved families of the two soldiers who died in the Palestinian attack on 25 June 2006. Four soldiers from Gilad Shalit's unit were injured, two got killed and Shalit himself was kidnapped and imprisoned in Gaza. The Shalit family has neither mentioned nor referred to the two dead companions of their son. In Noam and Avivah Shalit's mind, only Gilad exists.

Gilad Shalit was serving in a tank and the media falsely refers to the tank as  "the tank of Gilad". However, the officer of the tank was not Shalit himself but Lieutnant Chanan Barak (20) from the Negev town Arad. He was killed by the attacking Palestinian terrorists as well as the driver of the tank,  Sergeant  Pavel Slutzker (20). 

The mother of Chanan Barak would like to talk to Gilad Shalit as soon as possible in order to find out about the last minutes her son was alive. I doubt whether Noam Shalit would agree to such a meeting.

Yesterday, Israel's daily “Israel Hayom” chose the gigantic headline "HERO" for its front page. Together with a photo of Gilad Shalit. With all respect to Gilad, I don't see him as a hero but as person who deserves honour because he suffered through a Hamas prison for five years. However, I very much doubt whether Gilad Shalit wants to be seen as a hero but just live his life in peace. 

The Israeli newspaper HAARETZ published a great article about the campaign of Noam and Avivah Shalit regarding the forgotten victims of the tank attack: Pavel Slutzker and Chanan Barak. 

Yahrzeit: Nir Poraz and Nachshon Wachsman

Despite many Israelis being happy that Gilad Shalit is going to be released soon, we shouldn't forget that on 14 October 1994, the two Israeli soldiers Nachshon Wachsman and Nir Porat were killed by Hamas.

Exactly two year ago, the Israeli newspaper MA'ARIV published an interview with Nachshon Wachsman's mother Esther who, after his death, became a public figure and a popular member of the national religious party. Esther Wachsman was born in the US and is the child of Holocaust survivors from Europe.

In her interview she accused the former government (1994) under Yitzchak Rabin to have hastened the rescue of her son Nachshon. Instead to wait and thus gain time, Rabin sent out a rescue squad from the elite unit "Sayeret Matkal". However, the Sayeret was, according to Esther Wachsman, not experienced enough for such a combat but another special trained squad was just pushed away. Obviously Ehud Barak wanted to have his favourite elite unit (the Sayeret) in the picture.

Esther Wachsman continues with the words that after the failed rescue mission, Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin cried. Later on, when Esther and Yehudah Wachsman came to mourn Yitzchak Rabin (in November 1995), his widow Leah told them that she only saw her husband twice crying during his lifetime. One time was when Nachshon Wachsman got killed.

The first part of the video showing Nachshon Wachsman is accompanied by the song "Shema Israel" sung by the popular Israeli singer Sarit Hadad. The second part showing Nir Poraz is accomanied by a song from Yehudah Polliker.

Exactly 17 years ago, the week Nachshon Wachsman got kidnapped by the terrorists, a friend of mine celebrated a house party. She and three other friends had moved together into a new apartment in the Bavarian town of Fuerth. Then, I lived in the nearby Nuremberg and went to their party. When I arrived I was told that an Iranian guy had also been invited and if I would mind. Yes, I did mind but the guy had already arrived with another Iranian friend. Muslims tend to bring their own kind when they are invited to a party given by non - Muslims.

I sat down and started talking to some people I knew but those two Iranians who turned out to have studied with one of the guys moving into the new apartment, kept on staring at me. I have never spoken one single word to them and someone must have told them that I am Jewish. Eventually I moved on sitting in another room and found some interesting people in the kitchen.

This incident always comes into my mind when I think of Nachshon Wachsman. A day before he was shot, I was stared at by two Iranians. Stared at with pure hatred.

In Israel, we do not hear a lot from Nir Poraz' mother. She seems to avoid going public and sometimes it may be even sad for her that everyone is concentrating on Nachshon Wachsman but leaving out her son who did not hesitate to rescue Nachshon.

A few months ago, Yehudah Wachsman gave an interview where he spoke about his mourning period and that he just could not get over about his son's tragic death. Eventually he ended up in a support group with other mourning parents and the psychologist asked him to do the following:

How vicious Christian Missionaries try to conquer Israel

The Israeli anti - missionary site "Jewish Israel" published the latest figures on Christian missionary activities in Israel:

The current figures being thrown around by numerous Jewish, Christian, and US government sources are an estimated 20,000 "Jewish believers in jesus" and 150 congregations throughout Israel.

Moreover, "Jewish Israel" is providing its readers with a link to a messianic website whose youth is organizing a trip to Israel taking place next month. I went a step further and had a look at the main site of those nutty messianics and found out that an earlier trip had already taken place last October.

Honestly, I don't care where these messianics go. And if they go to hell, I couldn't care less. However, the previous tour itinerary reveals a lot: The messianic group was obviously lodging at the Kibbutzim Ramat Rachel (Jerusalem) and En Gev (at the Sea of Galilee / Kinneret). Kibbutz Ramat Rachel is well - known for renting out its facilities, such as guest houses and lecture halls, to Christian missionaries.
Expert tour guides from the Israeli army volunteer programme SAR EL are being announced and I wonder whether the guides knew what kind of idolworship tourists they guide or whether SAR EL knows about the idolworship activities of their tour guides. 

I don't like giving the link to an idolworship and anti - Jewish website but for those who need a proof, click HERE ! 

And here is another proof for how vicious Christian missionaries try to get Jews into their idolworship ideology:

It was obtained by Yad L'Achim and is further proof that missionaries prey on the weakest sectors of society, taking advantage of distress to bring Jews to Christianity.
