Tonight, Chassidut Gur is celebrating the Yahrzeit (memorial day) of its previous Rebbe Israel Alter (the Beit Israel), 1895 - 1977.
Just a curious question: Is this the Rebbe who introduced all the extreme laws especially regarding women ? Or was it Rebbe Simcha Bunim (the Lev Simcha) ?

ReplyDeleteJust asked a Vishnitzer Chassid some questions about the Chaseneh tomorrow and he told me the same. The Beit Israel introduced those laws. The strange thing is, according to what I heard, that actually the Gerrer women mourned most about him.
Can you share some of the laws which he introduced?

ReplyDeleteI am not sure about the exact Takanot the Beit Israel introduced and what was added or taken out later on.
Chassidut Gur has written Takanot but when you ask them personally, they deny it. They claim something like "Ah, we just read them but don't sign anything. And nothing is in writing anyway".
However, there is but it is almost impossible to get hold of it unless you sneak into Gur. The Gerrer Chassidim can be very close when it comes to certain topics and their Sex Takanot are such a topic.
Basically many other Chassidim know about those rules in detail and laugh about them. Such as "A Gerrer Chassid has to ask his Rebbe, via small note, how many times he is allowed to have sex during the week. This procedure he has to repeat every week".
I don't know exactly how this should work and to me it sounds quite complicated but this is what other Chassidim told me.
The most important Takana regarding the subject is definitely the Takana about the foreplay. Actually this is very well known although the Gerrer try to hide it or at least, don't talk bout it.
Furthermore, a Gerrer Chassid has to get dressed inside the bed and cannot walk around in underwear in his own bedroom.
There is a whole list and I am sure that all of those writing comments here are guys. So far, I have only met guys interested in the subject.:-)
By the way, the sex issue was also one of the reasons why Gur established its own Beit Yaakov for the girls. And this is also the reason why not too many women from other chassidic groups are willing to marry a Gerrer Chassid.
Gerrer Chassidim are only allowed to have sex every other friday night. No foreplay or physical contact ever. They will deny it but I personally know a non Gerrer girl who was tricked into such a marraige and not told about all these takonos untill after she was married.

I thought that the Gerrer girls are taught this kind of sex. I even herad that the newly husband didn't want to keep the Takanot but davka the young wife went to the Rabbis to complain about her husband.
