"Meshiach" on the Door

Photo: Miriam Woelke

B"H

A Chabad Meshichist gave me this poster while he was handing out Shabbat candles at the Machane Yehudah Market / Jerusalem last Friday afternoon. As you can easily see at the bottom of the poster, the Rebbe is praised as "Meshiach". I thought about cutting off the bottom but, in the end, I hung up the poster on my door and left the "Yechi ..." just for fun.:-)

Getting ready for Rosh Hashana

Are you prepared for Rosh Hashana ? Buying honey is one of my weekly duties. I drink lots of coffee and tea but a tea without honey is not a real tea.:-)

No kidding. If you are in Israel, buy your Rosh Hashana honey two weeks before the Chag, as prices are going up.

I still don't know whether I prefer a fish head or a head from a sheep. Probably neither one ...

Dream and Reality before Rosh Hashana

B"H

The month of ELUL has started and all of us should be involved in Teshuva. Prayer, Tehillim or, at least, a bit of Cheshbon Nefesh. However, the truth is that, despite all our great intentions and good will, we are still pushing everything aside by thinking: "Well, we've still got time and the Ashkenazi Selichot haven't even begun !"

I found a great picture in a haredi forum reminding us of reality.

The first picture on the right: "How my mother thinks we should spend the time before the high holidays". - Cleaning.

The second second picture (top left): "How my Rabbi thinks I should spend the time before the high holidays". - Studying Torah.

Bottom row, right photo: "How I think spending the time before the Chagim". - Traveling.

Bottom row, left photo: "Here is how I really spend my time before the upcoming Chagim". - Asleep. Well, not always but many times this is true.

Where do you fit in ?

The Seven Wonders of the World

B"H

Found on the Internet:

A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present "Seven Wonders of the World." Though there were some disagreements, the following received the most votes:

1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student had not finished her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many " The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help."

The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the 'Seven Wonders of the World' are:
1. to see
2. to hear
3. to touch
4. to taste
5. to feel
6. to laugh
7. and to love."

The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. The things we overlook as simple and ordinary and that we take for granted are truly wondrous! A gentle reminder -- that the most precious things in life cannot be built by hand or bought by man.
