Fourty years since the Munich Massacre

B"H

Fourty years went by since Palestinian terrorists killed eleven members of the Israeli Olympic team in September 1972. When we look at the Olympics today, we may notice that the Munich Massacre seems to be forgotten, as now, even more than ever, money counts and nothing else.

What do the relatives of the victims think today and what kind of mistakes were made while trying to negotiate with the terrorists ?

FRUMLIFE has put together a very informative article.

Shabbat Shalom

Israeli Wine

B"H

It is not easy being a religious Jew this Shabbat. Important "Mondial - Soccer World Championships" are scheduled for this Friday and Saturday. On the other hand, if were  watching the games we would later on regret our wasted time and not have celebrated Shabbat.

I don't know if Mea Shearim thinks about soccer and I will find out when I go there tonight.:-)))

"Shabbat Shalom - Gut Schabbes" to all of you !

Soccer, Football, Fussball

B"H

Americans may not even know about it due to a lack of interest:
This Friday the Soccer World Championships are going to start in South Africa. A huge event for the world and also Israelis are looking forward to it. Not only secular Jews but parts of the haredi (ultra - Orthodox) population as well.

Who says Haredim are not interested in soccer ?
In Israel, many of them are. Just look at all the Sephardi SHASS fans of "Beitar Yerushalaim". When Beitar plays, Jerusalem's pubs are full of young Haredim ordering a beer and watching the game live on TV. Not necessarily Mea Shearim but Israeli Haredim with a rather more "light" touch of haredi life.

Nevertheless, we are all glad that the Israeli national team didn't make it to South Africa or can you imagine the world's Apartheid towards us !

Are we allowed to risk our lives and hoping for G - d's Help ?

B"H

Jewish law forbids us putting ourselves in unnecessary danger and then asking for G - d's help saving us from any damage. Bungee jumping or climbing the highest mountains for fun and reputation, for instance.

The Talmud Tractate Shabbat 32a teaches us a statement of Rabbi Yannai:

"Let a person never stand in a dangerous place, saying to himself that G – d will perform a miracle for him and save him from harm – for perhaps He will not perform a miracle for him. And even if G – d does perform a miracle for the person, He will deduct it from his merits; the miracle does not come without his paying a price".

Is David Beckham Jewish ?

B"H

Israeli papers got a little excited when they published a photo of the British soccer star David Beckham a few days ago. Beckham went to the funeral of his JEWISH grandfather and the pictures showed him wearing a Kipa.

Jewlicious as well as YNET published a whole story on that.

David Beckham may be of Jewish ancestory but how about his other tattoos ?
Looks like he has his moods and fashions. Whatever comes up, comes up !
