Mishkenot HaRoim

B"H

Below you can look at the only, so far, existing picture of the Mishkenot HaRoim in the Mea Shearim neighbourhood. The Mishkenot HaRoim are members of the Edah HaCharedit and keep themselves rather as a secret.

In the middle: Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ullmann of the Edah HaCharedit (Chassidut Dushinsky). To the left is the Rebbe of the Mishkenot HaRoim: Rabbi Chaim Rabinovitz.

    Hi Dan,

This is what most people think; that certain extreme chassidic groups live off the government (Zionist) money.

But in the case of many of those groups, especially of the members of the anti - Zionist umbrella organization Edah HaCharedit in Mea Shearim, it is not true. They do not want the government's money and have their own funds.

The Edah has its own finance system, doctors, schools, pension, insurance, etc.

    From the Arabs ?
I don't know. It could be.
Sometimes I really do think that men are afraid to loose some kind of superiority. However, the system has worked for hundreds of years. Even already in the Middle Ages; except Rashi's daughter who was very Torah educated.

Sometimes it is also the responsibility of a woman to change something. In the litvishe world this already exists.

About the anti - Zionism issue I wrote here:

  2. Whats the need for yet another Chassidishe group? So many were wiped off the face of the earth, may Hashem avenge their blood hay"ad.

Also, who are these chassidim, what Chassidus do they learn, are they focused on the Polish derech as in chagas ?

Also, what ever happened to the Malochim? Do they exist at all?

The Mishkenot HaRoim are rather an organization and not really a chassidic group although they have a Rebbe, Rabbi Chaim Rabonovitch. The Rebbe, by the way, has a Boyan background.

I just sent an e - mail to someone questioning about the Malachim and about the Mishkenot HaRoim background. I could imagine that they stick to the Hungarians but I am not sure yet.

  4. The Melochim exist, they have a shul here in Williamsburg, though the bocherim who davven there are fiercely protective and don't like strangers to visit. I don't know if they exist in E"Y, their leadership is in the US and they are both small and anti-Zionist, even more-so than Satmar. (They burn the Israeli flag in Williamsburg on Purim, wheras Satmar avoids such behavior.)

  5. The man at the left is the brother of the Mishkenot Haroim rebbe. He is the Rebbe of Porissov, I am curious if you have anything to write about this chassidut. The Porissover and the Mishkenot Haroim rebbes are descended from the "Yid HaKadosh", a famous kabbalist.
