The Vishnitzer Rebbe from Monsey was hospitalized and Chassidut Vishnitz in Monsey is extremely worried. All group members started praying for the life of Rebbe Mordechai Hager.

That's a rare picture. He's very strict about that. Once in New Square at a simcha someone took a picture of him. He went up to the guy and demanded the film.

I just read that the Satmar Rebbe disliked pictures taken of him because as it's written in the sefer yaare devash (?) that a photograph contains an element of tumah. Do you know anything about this idea?

ReplyDeleteI tried to find something on this but didn't succeed.
It could have been, as many stricter Haredim see photos as a forbidden image. I once saw a Pessach Haggada with illustrations but all the faces on the drawings were "white spots". People without faces.
