In Jerusalem this would be a funny question, as many many people know Rabbi Mordechai Machlis.:-)
He was born in Brooklyn, went to Yeshiva Torah ve'Da'at. His father was a Rabbi. Rabbi Mordechai Machlis has been living in Jerusalem (Ma'alot Dafnat) for more than 25 years and organizes Shabbatot every Shabbat. About 80 people sit in his livingroom.
He teaches foreign students ar Bar Ilan University, he is national religious but most of his 14 kids have turned into Haredim. His sister Shifrah lives with her Chabad husband in Flatbush.
After years of living in Jerusalem, I decided to betray the city by moving to Tel Aviv.:-) In the meantime I returned to the Holy City. It is actually very good to be back in Jerusalem !!!
Nevertheless, I am still writing about Jerusalem but also include many other places in Israel.
Until some years ago, I was a Yeshiva (Michlalah) student. First with the national religious and later with the Litvishe. Also got in contact with Chassidut and this subject and lifestyle has never left me.
Excuse my ignorance, but who is that Rabbi Machlis, and is he Orthodox?

The two oldest Machlis study at MIR in Jerusalem.
