Destroying our Planet

B"H

The only time I ever watch TV is at the laundry. Busying myself with the self - service washing machines and dryers while watching some National Geographic programmes.

Just recently I watched a whole report on how our planet is warming up and how the ice melts in Greenland. A frightening report and hard to believe that this has been going on for a long time.
Huge parts of ice have already melted and if this is continuing with the present speed, parts of our coastal areas, such as parts of New York, will be flooded and just disappear as part of the ocean.

The more ice is melting, the more water is floating into the oceans and the more the water level is rising. It is unbelievable what we have been doing to our planet, to our atmosphere.
Another interesting point in this report was that the white gigantic ice mountains reflect the sun light. The sun shines with all its power and spreads its rays onto our planet. Without the white ice mountains reflecting this extreme sun light and the incoming heat, we would get on overdoses of heat.

Because the ice mountains have started melting, the sunlight is getting reflected less and thus, our planet is warming up drastically. National Geographic's solution was to reduce the smoke coming out of factory chimneys. Nevertheless, humans love to think of profits first and who is bothered by some melted ice and a higher sea level unless it is not effecting someone personally ?

G - d created the universe and we have nothing better to do but destroy his creation and obviously ourselves.

  1. I enjoy your blog immensly. Having said that, I am disappointed by your 'take' on this issue. It seems you have bought into the 'green' party line.

You should know that the torah says "Rabbos machshovos b'leiv ish".... or in Yidish "men tracht und G-tt lacht". We no more have the ability to destroy what the borei olam made than we do to create it.

Of course I do not mean to say that I support wholesale, negligent pollution of the planet; howeevr, we have to stop buying the Al Gore line about the planet. They are really trying to get us to 'change' in order get greater power over our lives. Gmar Chasima Tova :)

  2. The issue of pollution is far more more reachable than abstract reports on the NG-channel.
The hills of the Carmel are littered with waste. Even in remote areas, piles of garbage like car batteries, fridges, washing machines and tires are piling up. It's so disgusting. Soon Israel will be littered with waste all over like any other mediterranean/arab country.

    @ Kelsey

Seriously, I didn't think about Al Gore while writing about the TV - report.

By now, each of us knows about the danger of pollution and should start doing something to save our environment. Lets just start in our own home.

i also don't like the exaggerated Greens who drive others nuts about every little piece of garbage but we definitely should increase our awareness of nature and G - d's creation.

    @ Dwave

Just come to the beach in Tel Aviv and you will basically find the same garbage. Although the beaches are being cleaned at night, nut shells, cigarette buds, plastic bags, etc. are still dug into the sand. It doesn't matter when you go to sit at the beach, it is always dirty.

The way to the trash can already seems too far for many israelis.
