The Lelover Rebbe of Bnei Brak passed away on Yom Kippur. A great tragedy for the Lelover Chassidim and the Biderman family.

  2. Lelov was the first chassidus in Jerusalem. The second Rebbe, Reb Moshe, just made it. He came at the age of 74, and passed away 74 days after arriving. The Rhiziner said that although Reb Menachem Mendel of Vitebsk and the Rebbe of Kalisk made their attempt, Lelov will be the first to establish roots in Eretz Yisroel. And he was right.

I have heard such great things about the Lelover Rebbe and, unfortunately, I never found his place in Bnei Brak.
I just couldn't believe it when I read the news. Although I was in Mea Shearim on Mozzaei Yom Kippur, I didn't see any announcements about his passing away.

By the way, I always thought that Menachem Mendel of Vitebsk was the first building up a Chassidut. He was in Tiberias but at least something got started.

  4. Maybe he meant the first group that would plant roots, i.e. that they would flourish and last in Eretz Yisroel like Lelov has.
