    I love it when you post these kind of pics, daily life in the streets of geula/meah shearim, where they are trying to recreate what never was :)
    But I love it, it brings back a lot of memories

    Ge'ulah may look like a Shtetl but let me tell you what: It is expensive. Rent is up to the sky and the shops became extrmeley popular and it looks like a haredi shopping mall. Not as exclusive as Rabbi Akivah Street in Bnei Brak but almost.:-)))

    I don't know in the US but it may be the same in New York: Israeli Haredim like to shop. Especially before holidays as Rosh HaShana and Pessach. And they are looking for something where they can do so in a religious atmosphere. Although many go downtown Jerusalem into the secular sector.:-)

    Malchei Israel Street has become like a mall in the Ge'ulah neighbourhood; right next to Mea Shearim. Sissalek Ice Cream (I am putting an up - dated photo in later on), pizza places, cafes, shops, hamburger, anything.

    Prices are not that cheap but Haredim love the religious atmosphere.

    Nevertheless, we should not ignore the pressure on some shopkeepers by the Sikarikim. Such as separating men and women.
