The video shows tonight's demonstrations organized by the Edah HaCharedit. Jerusalem's municipality opened the Karta parking lot at 7am on Shabbat and thus caused the haredi protests.
The video shows the Haredim demonstrating (Shivtei Israel / HaNevi'im Street junction) as well as the left - wing protesters for a "Free Jerusalem".
The people in the car interviewed by a camera team are Russians and they say that it is great finding a free parking space so easily. A little ridiculous to interview Russians, as the majority of Russian immigrants (80 - 90 %) in Israel are considered as halachically NOT JEWISH. Or in other words - "What else do you expect them to say ? That Shabbat is holy and should be kept ?"
The latest report is that a 20 - year - old Haredi fell from a fence while he was watching the demonstration. Jerusalem's police denied to have anything to do with the cause of the serious injury.
I think your estimates of the percentage of goyisher russians is a bit high. while most agree that many are not halachically jews (i've seen estimates that range from 50% to 66% non-jewish) i think that 80-90% is not accurate. although i could be wrong, who knows.

ReplyDeleteCould be, as I've heard different versions. Some years ago, "Yediot Acharonot" said that 70 % of the Russian immigrants are not halachically Jewish.
A Russian haredi guy told me that 90 % are not halachically Jewish.
I estimate that at least 80 % are not halachically Jewish. 50 - 60 % seems too low.
Don't forget that many of the Jews brought their non - Jewish spouses and thus, many times have non - Jewish kids.
In the Israeli army, non - Jewish Russian soldiers have been swearing on the New testament for years. The army had to introduced that kind of procedure, as there are plenty of non - Jewish Russian soldiers in the army.
