Zfat (Safed) in northern Israel is especially known as the town of the medieval Kabbalists. However, many people may not know that Zfat has been destroyed by different earthquakes. One of the biggest one took place in 1837. By the way, the same year when Tiberias was destroyed by an earthquake.
Jews were killed in the earthquake and many ancient buildings destroyed. Nevertheless, until today there are some ruins to see in the old city.
