Photos from the Haredi "Education Conference"

Middle: Rebbe Israel Hager (Vishnitz / Bnei Brak)

Right: The Gerrer Rebbe Yaakov Aryeh Alter
Left: The Boyaner Rebbe Nachum Dov Brayer

Obviously the conference included the Agudat Israel as well as other haredi institutions accepting money from the State of Israel. Other groups, such as Dushinsky or Toldot Aharon, do NOT accept a Shekel from the Israeli government.
For two reasons:

1. Both groups are anti - Zionist.

2. A Dushinsky member told me that they do not want the Israeli government to interfere into their education programmes. As soon as a Rabbi / Rebbe accepts money from the government, the Ministry of Education would tell the haredi schools / Yeshivot what to do.

  1. Is the conference about religious or secular/professional education. The Haredi sector seem to at the moment get a lot of heat from the Gov about their education system, and that it needs reform.

  2. B"H

The photos were published in a haredi forum. Without too many explanations. Only that the conference took place yesterday.

The Ministry of Education demands more secular subjects. Physics, Maths, general education, as especially haredi boy's schools mostly teach subjects connected to Torah. And this is not enough when it comes to the Israeli job market.

I agree that haredi schools should teach science and sports, for instance. Why not ?
The most greatest Rabbis were educated in science. The Ramban or Ramban, for example.

  3. the discussion was regarding the infulance of the internet on the youth

And what was the result or conclusion the Rabbis found ?

I know that the Gerrer Rebbe has been telling his Chassidim for the past few years not to use the Internet.

  5. And the Belzer Rebbe has sad, on video, thats OK if you filter the filth.

  6. I wonder if they ever have heard of a web-filter, In which they can filter out websites that they don't want their children to visit. If they can regulate the cellphone functions they can do the same with the internet.

Don't they ever think of the usefulness of skype in studying and in regular communication?

  7. They should stop taking any donations from anyone with the internet or who use the internet...

Then we will take them seriously....

  8. B"H

In my opinion, Haredim should use the Internet because not everything is negative. Just look at Chabad, Nikolsburg or Breslov Sites who try to provide other Jews with the Parasha etc.

On the other hand, when I see male Haredim entering the Hebrew National Library in Jerusalem, the absolute majority of the guys between 18 - 60 immediately walks over to the computers and starts surfing. Not everyone on porn sites but news sites as well as forums and gossip.

The majority of those doesn't speak any English and mostly surfes on Hebrew sites. Hebrew secular sites !!!

The attraction a computer has on a Haredi guy is unbelievable. What bothers me most is that they surf as long as the computer works and when it is stuck, they just move on to another one without fixing the stuck computer.

Yeshivot etc. should teach their students how to use a computer and anyone can set up firewalls against porn, secular news or forums !!!!

I don't know what it is drawing Israeli Haredim to a computer. As soon as many of them see one, they are just carried away and surf.

  9. "I don't know what [it] is drawing Israeli Haredim to a computer", well it is not only Israeli Haredim who are drawn to computers. It is of course an exiting opportunity to sit on you toches and watch the world passing by. In an other post this blogg owner stated that Chareidim love to stare at other people. It is the some phenomenon/curiosity in front of the computers. Btw Chareidim love to stare at other people but some of them throws stones when other people stare at them.

I would rather call it curiosity.

Curiosity of the forbidden and unknown. Where some people think that they can enter a world which usually is totally forbidden and banned.
