After the Holocaust where thousands of Alexander Chassidim (Polish Chassidut) vanished, the group built itself up from scratch. Rabbi Yehudah Moshe Danziger (the EMUNAT MOSHE). First he lived in Jerusalem and, later on, he moved to Bnei Brak. His son, Rabbi Avraham Menachem Danziger, took over the Rebbe's position in 1973 when his father passed away. The present Rebbe of Chassidut Alexander is Rebbe Israel Zvi Yair Danziger, who just gave a Tish due to the Yahrzeit of his grandfather.
An important question is how much Alexander depends on Gur today !
Do they really depend on Gur? And once upon a time a lot of Gerrers went over to Alexander when the Rebbe refused to be Rebbe. But finally he agreed. The story is at www.rebbestories.blogspot.com under "Gerrer Rebbe on the Ba'al Shem."
ReplyDeleteThe newest story is a story on the first Alexander Rebbe.
Rabbi Henoch of Alexander was a talmid of the kotzker and a close friend of the Chiddushei Harim, the 1rst Gerrer Rebbe. When he dies, the sfas emes refused to take the mantle so most of the chassidim chose to take Reb henoch as rebbe. But there is no connection with Reb Henoch and the Alexander Chassidus. When Reb Henoch died, then the sfas emes (who was the grandson of the chiddushei harim) accepted to become the Gerrer Rebbe

ReplyDeleteThanks for the insights but isn't it today that Alexander is mostly absorbed into Gur ? Even though they have the Alexander Rebbe in Bnei Brak.
