On Sunday, we commemorate the Yahrzeit of the great chassidic master Rabbi Elimelech of Lizhensk (1717 - 1786).
The American Bialer Rebbe praying at Rabbi Elimelech's grave in Poland.
Hundreds (if not thousands) of Chassidim are going to spend this Shabbat in Lizhensk (Poland). The Toldot Avraham Yitzchak and the Toldot Aharon are forming one group of 80 Chassidim (30 Avraham Yitzchak and 50 Toldot Aharon) and travel together to Poland. The Avraham Yitzchak Rebbe is not going but I don't know about the Tishes tonight. Some may not take place due to this famous Yahrzeit because the Chassidim are simply gone.
Do you happen to know what kind of asceticism Reb Elimelech practiced? How he afflicted himself physically for the sake of spiritual discipline? What he did?

ReplyDeleteI am planning to write more on him on Sunday. It actually was him who deeply installed the role of the Zaddik. Rabbi Elimelech was poor all his life and as soon as there was money in the house, he gave it over to the poor.
Shabbat Shalom
Do you think Reb Elimelech himself would spend the time and money to travel. The best thing of this post is that chassidim of TA and TAY are traveling together. Is that really true? Shalom? Wow!
ReplyDeleteNext time either the TA or TAY Rebbe travels to the US begging for $$ for all the poor tzaddikim maybe they'll be asked about the propriety of their chassidim spending it on things like this.

ReplyDeleteI was told by a TAY Chassid that a group of TAY and TA went together. Not all of them are fighting. Don't forget that many families are split between the two groups but still keep in touch.
I think that Elimelech may have given the money for the ticket to the poor ! :-)
