The Belzer Rebbe, Rabbi Yissachar Dov Rokeach, spoke out against the BLACKBERRY phone. The Rebbe said in his speech that this phone would be "impure". However, I am just wondering why he didn't mention the iphone or any other phone of such kind.
Chassidut, Talmud, Torah, Kabbalah and news from Jerusalem
The true question is: does he know what a blackburry is? Did he already see one by his own or is it one of his court who was against the blackburry who urge him to speak against it?

ReplyDeleteI am sure that most of his Chassidim either have a Blackberry or an iphone. :-)
The Rebbe surely doens't know but his Chassidim love to show off and definitely possess all those new gadgets.:-)
Where do think the videos posted on websites like Rebbeclips.com and other come from?
ReplyDeleteIn the chasidic world, almost everybody has a new generation moblile phone or at least a video camera. For those who have a "Kosher" phone, they only use it in public, but they generally hide the "non-Kosher" phone at home.
We are chasidim, not taliban. The problem is not the phone, but what you do with it!

ReplyDeleteMost male Haredim I know have two phone numbers. One starting with the haredi digit 057 and a second, regular, one. The thing is that one must have a kosher 057 number in order to get the kids accepted into a Talmud Torah or Beit Yaakov.

ReplyDeleteRaboyseyee and Raboyseyettes:
Is the Blackberry treif?
Jerusalem – At a gathering in the Belzer Beis Medrash in Yerushalayim in honor of the start of the summer z’man, the Belzer Rebbe described the BlackBerry as an “instrument of contamination” that should be avoided at all costs. (Note: the ban seems to be ‘at all costs’ and that he seemingly didn’t assur (prohibit) the Chasidim from owning and or using one if they got it for free.)
