Buying a burial site in Israel is not cheap and buying a place on the Mount of Olives (Har HaZe'itim) in Jerusalem is anything but cheap at all. At least 50,000 Dollar if not more. The Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives is a famous location. During Temple times, for instance, the Parah Adumah (Red Hefer) was slaughtered on the Mount of Olives. Today's cemetery faces the Old City wall, right across the gate where Meshiach is supposed to appear first. Around the Jewish cemetery are churches (guarded by Arab Christians) and on top of the hill you can find an Arab village. Many years ago I walked through the village and didn't feel too comfortable, as the Palestinians there don't stare at you in a friendly way but rather hostile.
It is not a surprise that more and more Jewish graves have been desecrated recently. More than a year ago, the Nadvorna Rebbe got stoned when he arrived at the cemetery by car. He was able to escape and so did other famous Rabbis attacked by Arabs at the same location. No one is really in charge of protecting the cemetery from the Jewish side because too many ministries and further authorities are involved. Furthermore, the protection of the cemetery costs money and where should it come from ?
While the Jews still argue about who is in charge of the Mount of Olives and its cemetery, the Arabs desecrate more and more Jewish grave sites. Not only there but also in Hebron.
What is wrong with our country? Lately it seems that the very people we elected are working against us. Is there not a way to start some kind of lawful resistance to get this 5th column out of power?

ReplyDeleteHaredi radio channels have been reproting daily about the incidents on the Mount of Olives but you won't find it mentioned in the secular press. At the moment, the government has more important things to deal with.:-)
