Some time ago, I was raising the question whether anyone is able to provide any news regarding the Satmar runaway GITTY GRUNWALD. One of the SHEARIM readers recently sent me a link where Gitty's and her ex - husband's custody dispute for their daughter Esther Miriam is being discussed.
Have you heard of Deborah Feldman before?
ReplyDeleteShe was once apart of the Satmar community in Williamsburg.
You can read her info here:

ReplyDeleteI am not sure how reliable the author of the link I gave is. For example, I always thought that Gitty wasn't born into Satmar but her mother made Teshuva and joined Satmar while Gitty was already born.
And, of course, the Satmar Beit Din wouldn't give custody to Gitty. I doubt whether any Beit Din in the world would, as Gitty was obviously using drugs and doesn't have the best lifestyle. I cannot judge her now and she may have changed her ways but, if not, she will neither get custody from Satmar nor from a worldy court.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the link ! I have never heard about Deborah Feldman but will have a look through her blog.
As far as I see did she grow up in Williamsburgh. In the community of Rebbe Zalman Leib ?

Some of the content in Deborah's blog I find highly inappropriate. She previously had another blog 'Hasidic Feminist' but it seems to have been removed.
Her other blog was much detailed about her life and growing up within the Satmar commmunity in Williamsburg and how one day she decided to run away taking her son with her.

ReplyDeleteI do find her blog highly inappropriate although she concentrates a lot on Leibby Kletzky !
It is inappropriate indeed when runaways only concentrate on the bad side of the haredi population but never mention any positive aspects. The same with the site of the "Failed Messiah". It almost looks like someone is spending his time in order to get his little piece of revenge.
So, leave haredi society and go on with your life. In the end, you may find out, that you have learnt many great things from haredi society. But, instead of moving forward, people like Deborah and others don't move anywhere and just hurt themselves emotionally.
The images and content of the blog is unfortunately at times is highly inappropriate.
ReplyDeleteMaybe these individuals for whatever reason feel the need to use a public forum (internet blog)to vent whatever issues they may have with the Charedi community long after they have left it.
There are many beautiful things about our community. My concern is people whom have little or next to no knowledge of the Charedi community will read such blogs and assume this is how people are etc

ReplyDeleteMany people even prefer reading such blogs instead of dealing with the reality of haredi society.
Isn't gitty gunwald the bogger called 'Shpitzle Shtrimpkind'?'

ReplyDeleteI don't know, as I didn't even know that blog. What I know for sure is that Gitty was running a kind of personal blog which had nothing to do with chassidic descriptions. Instead she wanted to be in fashion but the photos were awful.

ReplyDeleteI wonder if that's her- the stories are identical...
I arrived here following up Gitty for my post on the new reality show with former Orthodox: here.
