Chabad goes Yemenite

Rabbi Eyal Karouchi from the Chabad Hostel "Ascent" in Zfat.
Last Thursday, on Tu be'Shevat, he wore a Yemenite dress.

The Rabbi is Sepharadi but I am not sure whether he is a Yemenite. However, for some reason, he loves to dress up like that and I have seen him like this a couple of times.

  2. Maybe he's following the hora'ah of the Rebbe to keep the traditions of his ancestors after becoming a Lubavitcher...I have seen many Lubavitcher from Yemenite origins in Crown Heights keeping their levush and long peyos, and they even have their own shul where they can daven and use the Yemeni nusach and keep ther own traditions, while being Lubavitcher Chassidim. It's beautiful to see. But if you don't know they're Lubavitcher, it may be disturbing.

I just spoke to the Rabbi and he said that he actually is not a Yemenite Jew. He says he just dresses up like this for fun. Especially when groups are coming to Ascent.:-)
